Overview

A city-run program Edmonton started in 2020 on ~5 acres of municipal land, donating its harvest (over 253,000 lbs cumulatively) to the food bank. It was cut in the city's 2024 Fall Supplemental Operating Budget.

Over 250 volunteers helped plant and harvest, with produce donated to the food bank.

Operating model

A publicly-funded program the city ran directly on repurposed municipal nursery land during COVID.

Impact

Discontinued in 2025 by council budget cuts made to limit a tax increase, the city ending its funding after classing it a 'want' rather than a 'need'.
