An ANERA project spreading low-cost rooftop gardening with recycled containers among residents of a Palestinian refugee camp destroyed and rebuilt after the 2007 fighting. Residents such as 62-year-old Om Maher grow vegetables, herbs and fruit trees on their roofs, supporting food security and the rebuilding of their lives.

FAO project "Improving the nutrition of Syrian refugees and host communities through garden walls", Lebanon

An FAO project run from 15 September 2015 to 15 June 2016 under the constraint that the Lebanese government does not permit Syrian refugees to cultivate land. It deployed micro-gardens on the walls of dwellings for landless vulnerable households, with the stated objective of promoting diversified, quality food. The 170 direct beneficiaries across Akkar, Tripoli and the Bekaa comprised 76 vulnerable Lebanese and 94 displaced Syrians.
