Overview
A community garden at Zaimokucho Plaza along Kobe's Hyogo Canal. Using planters made from reused maritime wooden pallets, it grows strawberries, over ten kinds of herbs, figs, citrus, hops and radishes, creating a place for community farming and exchange on the canal bank.
Citizen participation
A community garden on the banks of the Hyogo Canal where visitors enjoy watering, soil-building, weeding and harvesting. Basic gardening and learning days are held on the second Saturday of each month for a 500-yen participation fee, with planters handmade from reused maritime wooden pallets.
Operating model
Run by the Unga no Hatake Gardening Club based at 'Unga no Tonari', sustained by participation fees (500 yen per session) and volunteer hands-on work, turning an underused public canal-side space into a place for community farming and exchange.
Impact
