A study on the growing interest in urban agriculture in both developing and industrialized countries, examined through the case of the Granada urban agglomeration in Spain, where interstitial agrarian spaces exist within the urban ecosystem. It points out that greening indicators of urban sustainability based on green-space density can misrepresent these urban agricultural spaces by failing to account for them, and argues for the need to institutionalize a high level of protection for such agro-urban spaces.
