This article describes a partnership between an urban, Midwestern STEM high school, a local university's Engineers Without Borders (EWB) chapter, and a nonprofit organization. In spring 2014, an engineering design unit was developed for high school juniors in a Principles of Engineering course to update compost bins for a community garden.
