This study examines allotment gardens in Marseille, Genoa, and Barcelona and finds that, although urban agriculture is potentially at stake in these cities, allotments struggle to establish themselves within complex urban contexts. Their actual function appears limited: their social role is often overestimated, while their environmental and landscape significance remains largely neglected.
