Does the Creation of Food Safety Demonstration Cities Promote Agricultural Development? Evidence from China

This paper empirically examined the impact of the creation of food safety demonstration cities (CFSDC) on agricultural development in China, using panel data from 277 cities from 2011 to 2019. The difference-in-differences (DID) model showed that CFSDC significantly improves the level of agricultural development. Mechanism analysis indicated that CFSDC promotes urban agricultural development by accelerating technological innovation and industrial restructuring.
