Against a background of limited public participation in urban farming activities in Malaysia despite government efforts, and challenges in sustaining participants' interest, this study measured motivations for urban farming participation using the three components of Expectancy Theory of Motivation—expectancy, instrumentality, and valence. This paper reports findings on the expectancy component of that motivation.
