First Report of Little cherry virus 2 in Flowering and Sweet Cherry Trees in China

A survey of cherry trees in Yunnan Province, China, from 2008 to 2009 observed symptoms such as foliar chlorosis and reddening, stem deformity, and tree stunting. Leaf samples from 68 flowering cherry and 30 sweet cherry trees were tested by RT-PCR, detecting Little cherry virus 2 (LChV-2) in 87% of flowering cherry and 27% of sweet cherry trees, with an overall infection rate of 68.4%. This study represents the first report of LChV-2 in China.
