A qualitative study assessing why community gardeners participate at Jones Valley Urban Farm in Birmingham, Alabama, and the potential impacts of participation on members' health, community and diet. Twenty active gardeners across four focus groups reported prior experience, cost savings, taste, sustainability concerns and access to fresh, organic food as reasons for participating, and reported sharing, community development, mental health, personal pride, perceived health benefits and newfound food variety as impacts of their involvement.
