This paper compared John Dewey's work on school gardening with Community Studies scholar Mary Beth Pudup's scholarship on the politics of gardening movements. The comparison is argued to be fruitful in exposing the political reasons for gardening education, relating school gardening to contemporary movements, and giving greater normative force to the call for creating more school garden projects.
