This study used a Geographic Information System to analyze the location of allotment gardens for elderly users in Gifu City, Japan, measuring both direct distance and road distance from users' homes to the gardens, and ran simulations of changes to garden provision. Increasing the number of garden plots and changing the composition of users shortened the user distance to some extent, while newly opening gardens in the city center — where none previously existed — greatly shortened the user distance.
