In the Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand, India (the districts of Dumka, Godda, Sahebganj, Pakur, Jamtara and Deoghar), community surveys, field walks and ethnobotanical interviews with Santhal and other tribal communities documented 54 species of wild edible and medicinal plants. Each species is recorded with local names in Santali and Hindi, plant parts used and field observation notes, and classified as wild food, medicinal, or both. The work was carried out under the Wild Food Forests Tribal in Jharkhand project, supported by The Pollination Project (USA), and states that the region's ethnobotanical diversity remains underrepresented in formal scientific literature.
