Airfield Estate (Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland)

A 38-acre (15 ha) farm and garden estate on Overend Avenue in Dundrum, south Dublin, centred on a house built around 1830. The Overend sisters kept a Victorian-era farm going in the midst of a suburbanising region and left it as a trust in 1974. It keeps Jersey cattle, Jacob sheep, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, Saanen goats, Rhode Island Red chickens, Irish Angus cattle and donkeys, and practises organic farming and soil regeneration. Its eight acres of gardens include ornamental planting and a walled garden alongside a three-acre organic food garden growing seasonal crops.

A working farm left in the suburbanising south of Dublin, opened so that city residents can come and encounter farming and food first-hand. As of 2016 it drew 280,000 annual visitors and employed 75 people.

The house and farmland the Overend family acquired in 1894 were left by the sisters Letitia and Naomi as a trust in 1974. The property is now operated jointly by the Dromartin Estates Company and the Airfield Trust.

An example of farmland that survived suburban development and now functions as a place where city residents meet food and farming. As of 2016 it recorded 280,000 annual visitors and 75 employees, producing milk, vegetables and meat.
