Jordan's first Urban Farming Training Centre (Al-Tafawuq Park, Amman)

Overview
The first urban-farming training centre in Jordan, sited in a city park in Amman. Built to strengthen food security amid climate change and disrupted supply chains, it gives residents a place to learn how to grow vegetables and fruit trees in the city. The preceding project laid out a 6,000 m² community garden in the city and recovered 3,600 endangered trees using the Miyawaki planting method.
Citizen participation
A hub for hands-on training in urban farming for residents. In the preceding project more than 15 women completed advanced training, and the centre is aimed at growing women and young people into practitioners.
Operating model
Opened on 29 October 2024 by the Greater Amman Municipality and UNDP Jordan. The foundational Sustainable Urban Farming project was funded by the Government of Japan.
Impact
Gives the urban-agriculture work the Greater Amman Municipality has run since 2007 a permanent training base. Unlike earlier rooftop-garden support, it explicitly sets out to develop women and young people as practitioners.
