Overview
A community resource in the London Borough of Lewisham for better mental health. In its green spaces people grow and cook food and make art together, a leading social-prescribing site supporting recovery and empowerment.
Citizen participation
People with mental illness or early-stage dementia are referred (social prescribing) from health services and join for 12-month placements as 'co-workers' in therapeutic gardening, art and cooking activities.
Operating model
Run as a charity funded by grants, donations and social-prescribing partnerships, providing 'green care' that serves as an antidote to loneliness and exclusion.
Impact
With around 370 participants a year, it improves wellbeing and reduces isolation through contact with nature and social connection, and is featured in research as a model green social prescription.
