A programme launched in the second half of 2024 by the Province of Buenos Aires Ministry of Agricultural Development (Provincial Directorate of Family Agriculture and Rural Development, and Provincial Directorate of Agriculture) to support local food production through family and community gardens using agroecological practices. It supplies seedlings and training to community gardens of at least 40 m², and inputs plus accompaniment to municipalities setting up local plant nurseries. Institutions, clubs, associations and organisations starting community gardens, and municipalities developing nurseries, apply through the province's MI MDA platform. Its first edition worked mainly with school gardens, social organisations and hospitals, with limited family-garden participation.

A law passed by the Buenos Aires City Legislature on 3 December 2020 to promote and spread urban agriculture in the city. It defines urban agriculture as an agricultural practice located in a metropolis, oriented to growing and processing food in line with the principle of sustainability, and separately defines urban agroecology (crop diversification, revaluing traditional practices, producing and distributing healthy food free of synthetic inputs, and protecting natural resources). Its stated aims include lower-impact production and consumption, agroecological resource management, promoting composting to cut waste, and building shared knowledge about urban agriculture. Article 8 lets any natural or legal person, public or private, apply for permission to use suitable public land for community gardens.

A municipal ordinance of 26 November 2020. Article 1 creates a Municipal Urban Agriculture Programme to design, implement, promote and supervise urban agriculture for sustainable food production in the town and its surroundings. Article 3 makes the Executive Department the implementing authority and requires agreements with INTA (the national agricultural technology institute) and provincial agencies. Article 4 guarantees community training: workshops on planting techniques, crops suited to local resources and soil preparation, teaching materials for home gardening, and technical follow-up for families. Article 5 authorises use of municipal land; Article 6 emphasises crop rotation, soil improvement, seed exchange and waste recycling; Article 7 requires public awareness campaigns on how to access the programme.

A municipal public policy born of Argentina's 2001 economic crisis. Ordinance 7341 of 2002 institutionalised the municipal community-garden programme, opening idle land — estimated at 36% of the city's surface, including railside strips, flood-prone soils and unfinished green space — to agroecological gardens. The city provides tools, seeds and training through to sales support at permanent open-air markets; within two years some 800 gardens fed around 40,000 people. The programme won the grand prize of WRI's 2020-21 Prize for Cities.

Launched by the municipality during the 2002 crisis, supplying residents with training, seeds, materials and growing space. A 2004 municipal ordinance granted temporary tenure of vacant public land to the urban poor, and in 2015 the 'Cinturon Verde' ordinance permanently designated 800 ha of peri-urban land for agroecological production.
