A community rooftop-farming initiative led by the social enterprise Schaduf that turns unused rooftops in Cairo's informal neighbourhoods into productive gardens. Working with GIZ and civil society, it pursues food production, microclimate improvement and social inclusion and income for women and youth. Though it uses low-tech water beds, participation and self-reliance of low-income households are at its core.
