Currihuerta community garden, Curridabat

A community garden in Curridabat, in Costa Rica's greater San José area, created by three young residents on unused urban land. It pairs organic-growing and permaculture workshops with gatherings such as film nights and bonfires, under the idea that cultivating land harvests not only food but community.

Three young residents — Max Solano, Fernando Rosabal and Juan Pablo Angulo — set out to turn unused urban land into a productive, educational and social space. Alongside permaculture and agroecology workshops and teaching on composting and organic growing, they hold cultural and recreational events such as film nights and bonfires that bring neighbours together. Participation has varied over time.

A citizen project profiled by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) as an example of urban growing in Latin America. How the running costs are covered could not be verified from published information.
