Overview
An urban farm started in 1972 by Sandy Wheeler on a Freightliners goods yard in York Way, relocated in 1978 to Lower Holloway, Islington, when the original site was needed for council housing. It has an ornamental garden, vegetable, herb and fruit gardens, and an animal village.
Citizen participation
Run as a community-organised charity, giving urban children the chance to see and interact with animals they would not otherwise meet.
Operating model
Funded by the council and by donations, with an on-site farm shop and café.
Impact
The only urban farm in the borough, it keeps farming and animals present in a densely built-up part of London.
