Overview

A project turning a 1,500㎡ plot of national land in Harajuku into a citizen-built organic community garden for under a year (opened April 2025) — a flagship case of interim use before redevelopment.

Citizen participation

Citizens co-cultivate organically (8-person 'connected plot' teams); the site is opened to nearby schools, nurseries and residents, with food scraps and woodchips composted on site.

Operating model

Non-profit, funded by crowdfunding (~¥1.78M) and citizen collaboration; a public-private model of interim use of national land.

Impact

Demonstrates a public-private model for turning idle downtown national land into a citizen interim garden.
