Overview

Opened 2009 on a former municipal-housing site in Yata, Higashi-Sumiyoshi. A ward–citizen farm for flower/vegetable place-making, engaging hundreds each year—Osaka’s flagship urban kleingarten.

Citizen participation

City-built, volunteer-run: vegetable workshops, planting classes, spring/autumn festivals, and flowers for bridges and community halls. Open to the public on the fourth Sunday morning each month.

Operating model

A German-style kleingarten model: the ward builds the site, citizen volunteers run it. Recognised with national green-care awards.

Impact

Links gardening directly to ward greening and community policy, spreading flowers into public space and food-education events.
