Overview
An urban-farming project in Amsterdam-Noord. Built around an organic self-harvest garden, it links farming, food, welfare and enterprise, with local residents involved in running it.
Citizen participation
Residents subscribe to a harvest plan and take part in sowing and harvesting 70+ vegetables, berries and flowers; volunteers and people facing barriers to employment work the gardens together.
Operating model
Funded by self-harvest subscriptions plus tours, hospitality, events and a cluster of on-site enterprises (a brewery, childcare and more).
Impact
Brings green space and connection to a disadvantaged neighbourhood, modelling a social form of urban farming where residents, volunteers and people facing employment barriers work side by side.
Land tenure
Meanwhile use of a former industrial site awaiting redevelopment.
