Overview

A community garden that appeared in 2020 in St Petersburg's Primorsky Victory Park, where residents grow herbs and salad greens in wooden planters; strong interest led to expansion of the plots.

Citizen participation

The park rents residents personal wooden planter boxes (~200x50 cm) in which to grow spice herbs and various salad greens, providing tools, gloves and advice. Demand was so high that extra plots had to be allocated.

Operating model

Run by the administration of this regionally listed heritage park. A seasonal subscription to a plot is paid (~6,000 rubles), including the planter, tools and advice.

Impact

Created a space for residents to experience gardening within a historic park, drawing demand beyond expectations and supporting an urban culture of city dwellers growing plants outdoors.
