Overview

A network of social farms run by Es-Pool Plus, sited in urban areas such as Tachikawa, Itabashi and Yokohama. Companies directly employ people with disabilities to do farm work, and the scheme has grown to more than 60 sites nationwide.

Citizen participation

Companies rent garden plots and directly hire people with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities as their own employees, who can choose outdoor or indoor plots suited to them, with cultivation equipment and rest rooms designed for accessible work.

Operating model

A service model providing farm plots and support to companies seeking to meet legal disability-employment quotas; produce is largely consumed by the employed workers themselves or within the companies.

Impact

It has created thousands of jobs for people with disabilities nationwide, helping urban companies meet statutory employment quotas while providing stable work for disabled employees.
