Overview
Built in 2018 on a developer's residential complex in central Chongqing, this is one of the city's first rooftop community gardens designed for seniors. With accessible garden beds, it is a welfare and community space where elderly residents can take part in gardening.
Citizen participation
Elderly residents take part in vegetable gardening, recreation and creative activities on a fully accessible rooftop. Easy-reach garden beds let seniors grow vegetables, providing a venue for post-retirement social life and wellbeing.
Operating model
A developer-led model in which a private developer (Longfor) built and operates the rooftop of its residential development as senior-care and community infrastructure, provided as a shared facility for residents.
