Yokohama Citizen Farms & Harvest-Experience Farms (Yokohama Midori-Up Plan)
Yokohama, Japan · Operator: 横浜市(環境創造局/みどりアップ推進)
Overview
Under its Midori-Up Plan, Yokohama develops citizen farms and harvest-experience farms and, since 2014, runs the 'Yokohama Farm Expedition' agri-tour. It officially expands opportunities for residents to engage with farming while conserving farmland that remains in the large city.
Citizen participation
Residents rent plots at nearby citizen farms to till the soil and grow fresh vegetables, and enjoy picking strawberries and fruit at harvest-experience farms. The 'Yokohama Farm Expedition' agri-tour takes them around production sites and distribution facilities to experience the city's diverse farming.
Operating model
