In Kampung Sinar Harapan, an urban agricultural area on the outskirts of Bandar Lampung City, Indonesia, a Community Service (PKM) activity was conducted to address challenges of land conversion and water resource availability. This activity, carried out from August to October 2019, provided training to the Harapan Jaya Women Farmers Group (KWT) on the design and development of hydroponic installations and greenhouses, and on hydroponic farming methods. Evaluation results indicated that KWT Harapan Jaya members well understood urban farming methods, hydroponic installation, and cultivation techniques.

An analysis of survey and interview data examined how farm characteristics affect the outcomes of growing specialty crops in high tunnels in Indiana. Three farm types (alternative food and agriculture enterprises, mixed enterprise, and side enterprise) adopted distinct approaches to high tunnel integration and management. Alternative food and agriculture enterprise farmers, who made high tunnels central to their business, showed higher capacity use and greater financial return compared to mixed and side enterprise farmers who invested less time and labor.

This study examines the agricultural situation in West Bengal, noting that livestock ownership is more egalitarian than land ownership and that the region has abundant fish ponds. It emphasizes the importance of adopting integrated pest management procedures to prevent pesticide pollution in fish cultivation water. The abstract also states that socially underprivileged communities gaining access to agricultural and homestead land through land reforms is a significant step in eliminating poverty.

However, 60% of products rot due to a lack of cold storage, hindering the elimination of food shortages and export amplification. Ethnographic research in Budhera, a peri-urban village bordering Gurugram city in Haryana, India, investigated the juxtaposition of urbanization processes and climate variability impacts on peri-urban agriculture. Results showed that dimensions of agrarian livelihoods, such as cropping choices, irrigation cycles, sharecropping arrangements, declining common property resources, and land use changes to non-agricultural uses, were influenced by urbanization processes. It was concluded that changes in land and water use reshape agricultural practices and can cascade upon climate variability impacts, making agriculture more precarious for peri-urban farmers.

A community empowerment program focusing on clean water management, compost making, and urban farming was implemented in Muara Baru flats, Jakarta. A majority of residents responded positively to the program and expressed willingness to actively participate. However, several obstacles hindering the program's success were identified, including a lack of commitment from the local community, climate change, water availability, and arable land availability.

This study aims to determine an Eco Village model in the Paralon village area, utilizing urban farming and eco-architecture concepts, to support the development of sustainable cities by optimizing available land and space, including vertical planes. This study in Makassar City, Indonesia, aimed to understand the existence of rice farming land, identify strength and weakness factors for farmers, and determine priority strategies for maintaining rice farming land. Informants included farmer group heads and government representatives. Using qualitative descriptive analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), the study found that rice farming land physically covers 2,636 hectares. Key strength factors included agricultural products for family food and income, while weakness factors included land ownership, unproductive land, and limited government support. The priority strategy identified was enhancing agricultural production facilities and infrastructure.

This paper investigates rainwater harvesting as an alternative for urban agriculture in the Wanggu Catchment Area, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. It calculates the water needs for cabbage (281.15 mm/total growing period) and spinach (108.83 mm/total growing period) based on FAO standards. Simulation results indicate that with a 100 m2 rainwater catchment area, spinach can be planted more frequently (4 periods) and in a wider area (29.06 m2) compared to cabbage (2 periods, 22.51 m2).

The Indonesian Institute of Technology (BLK) provided integrated waste processing assistance at TPST-3R Batan Indah to support the South Tangerang City Government's waste management program. The challenge was 2000 kg of waste generated daily from 1114 households, with 70% (1.4 tons) going to the Cipeucang landfill. This assistance aims to produce energy and compost, leading to zero waste and supporting urban farming.

This study explored strategies for promoting urban agriculture in the rural-urban complex area of Pohang City, South Korea. It analyzed central government and local government urban agriculture plans and current conditions in major municipalities using SWOT analysis. The findings suggest that successful urban agriculture activation requires creating healing spaces, utilizing idle land, and linking with urban regeneration projects. Additionally, it calls for human resource development, incorporating citizen feedback, developing a sixth-industry-linked urban agriculture model, and implementing sustainable practical promotion through Living-Lab projects.

This qualitative study in Makassar, Indonesia, examined the revitalization of urban alleys, which began in 2014 to change negative perceptions and enhance community awareness. Using observation surveys and walk-through analyses, the research found that successful government programs should empower cultural values, with local "genius loci" programs being more recognizable for building belonging and promoting urban resilience. Alley revitalization provided communal space and urban farming harvests, leading to green economy improvements and settlement arrangements.

This review examined evidence from literature supporting urban agriculture as an option to overcome food production challenges in Asia, where urbanization has adversely affected in-city food production. Rapid disappearance of urban-fringe farmland has made relying solely on rural agriculture inadequate for urban dwellers in Asia. The United Nations Development Program reports that approximately 200 million people are employed in urban farming in Asia, contributing to the food supply of 800 million urban dwellers.

In Denpasar City, the subak institution is threatened by urban agricultural land degradation, prompting the city to plan a Subak Lestari Zone for sustainable food agriculture. This study analyzed the impact of developing rice-fish cultivation on farmers' income and identified strategies for sustainable urban rice-fish farming. Using quantitative feasibility analysis and qualitative SWOT analysis, the results showed that rice-fish farming had higher feasibility than traditional rice farming, yielding a net income of IDR 7,165,250 (a 35.29% increase) and an R/C ratio of 2.97.

DKI Jakarta faces challenges in meeting food needs for its over 10 million residents due to limited urban food production, making it dependent on other regions. Urban farming is proposed as an alternative, particularly by optimizing the use of house yards in residential areas, which constitute 48.41% of the city. This paper emphasizes the importance of stakeholder engagement and innovative architectural interventions to facilitate urban farming in dense, narrow areas.

This study analyzed the spatial differentiation of agricultural regional functions in Beijing, China, using data from 184 streets and towns. It found that agricultural regional function generally increases from the urban core to the far suburbs, but significantly declines in the urban-rural fringe extended area, leading to a loss of spatial development constraints. Land factors, particularly location and house prices, were identified as key inhibitors of agricultural regional function, especially in low-scoring areas.

This study proposed and tested an urban garden model derived from the traditional Korean Gyeonjongbeop farming method, interpreting practices from Imwongyeongjeji Bolliji. Researchers cultivated vegetables on ridges and furrows, finding that Raphanus sativus, Allium fistulosum L., Brassica juncea, and Spinacia oleracea on ridges, and Hordeum vulgare var. hexastichon and Triticum aestivum L. on furrows, showed higher growth than in conventional flat fields. This method proved effective for crops vulnerable to weather and could enable year-round urban farming by utilizing winter fallow lands.

This study focuses on the unresolved dialogue between traditional markets and public transportation in the Angke Market environment, proposing an architectural design to meet the needs of urban millennial society. The design uses a mixed program combining transit functions, traditional fruit and vegetable markets, vertical urban farming, and millennial hangout places. This results in new programs like urban farming and hangout facilities that link transit and market programs and contextualize future needs.

In Majalengka Regency, threats to food security are worsened by the conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural purposes. This research investigated how urban farming innovations could be a solution to food security threats and how the community adapts to ecological changes, specifically land conversion and urban farming innovation, using participatory action research. The study found four types of adaptation to urban farming innovation: apathetic, reactive, proactive, and anticipatory, with field assistance facilitating increased community adaptation.

This study investigated the impact of agricultural type transformation on agricultural ecosystem services and human well-being in two villages in the Xi'an metropolitan area, China, using household surveys. From 2000 to 2017, Majia Village, focused on grain cultivation, saw its ecosystem service value decrease by 17.13%, while Huojian Village, focused on vegetable cultivation, experienced a 141.08% increase. Human well-being was 89% higher in Huojian Village, indicating that a shift from traditional grain cultivation to modern urban agriculture can enhance well-being, with agricultural net income being the most significant factor.

This paper conducted a spatiotemporal analysis of urban agriculture (UA) areas and types in Nakhonratchasima City, Thailand, using Google Earth images from 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2018. A segmentation-based classification method in QGIS identified eleven UA classes, including truck crops and floricultural crops. Truck crops had the greatest cover in the study area, while floricultural crops covered the minimal space over the study periods. The analysis revealed different spatiotemporal change patterns, composition, and rates, showing how human-induced activities affect UA change patterns and rates.

Using a multi-method Rapid Assessment Process, the study investigates how urban agriculture is practiced and what factors influence farmers' livelihood decisions. The research argues against assuming the sustainability of urban agriculture, emphasizing the need to understand city-level conditions and their impact on farmers' economic viability.
