A district program of urban and peri-urban agroecological agriculture run by Bogotá's José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden. Since 2004 it has trained citizens and supported gardens, and is regarded as a Latin American reference case.
Citizen participation
Citizens across all 19 urban localities run household and community gardens with training and technical support from the Botanical Garden, including seed banks and workshops on entrepreneurship and food processing.
Operating model
A public program run by the city's Botanical Garden, institutionalized by Bogotá Council Agreement 605 of 2015, offering initial technical visits, basic garden kits and free in-person and online training.
Impact
Since 2004 it has trained 71,286 people in urban agriculture, given technical assistance to 55,426 gardeners and supported 25,022 community, household and institutional gardens.
