Overview

A shared-garden framework based on the City of Paris's 2003 'Main Verte' (Green Hand) charter, under which resident associations run gardens on city plots, committing to public access, events, composting and organic growing to spread social bonds and greenery.

Citizen participation

Local associations sign a charter to run gardens, opening to the public at least a half-day a week, hosting events, and practising composting, rainwater harvesting and organic gardening.

Operating model

A public-civic model in which the City of Paris provides land, methodological support and a label, while resident associations run the gardens non-commercially.

Impact

Has produced many shared gardens across Paris's districts, institutionally supporting neighbourhood exchange, environmental and food education, composting and biodiversity.
