Overview
An urban farming training programme launched in 2026 in Kigamboni District, Dar es Salaam, run by the environmental NGO AGENDA with the district authority. It teaches farmers organic, water-thrifty growing and pairs tree planting with food-and-farming learning for schoolchildren.
Citizen participation
Smallholder farmers and schoolchildren in Kigamboni District take part in training on organic cultivation, drip irrigation, organic pest control and integrated crop planning, and plant drought-resistant and fruit trees at schools and farms.
Operating model
The NGO AGENDA works with the district authority, funded by the Global Greengrants Fund, to deliver training and inputs; farmers consume and sell what they grow.
Impact
Aims to spread lower-input methods that hold yields for peri-urban farmers facing drought and soil degradation. Executive secretary Dora Swai says the goal is to equip smallholders with sustainable methods that improve environmental resilience, health and income. No quantified outcomes published yet.
