Overview
A farming school launched in 2020 within EAT LOCAL KOBE's urban-farming work. Based in the Kamiatago district of Kobe's Kita ward, it teaches residents who want farming as a livelihood—not just self-sufficiency—through hands-on training by local farmers, aiming to nurture Kobe's distinctive part-time micro farmers.
Citizen participation
Residents who want to make farming part of their working life learn vegetable growing, selling, processing and farmhouse handcrafts over a year from locally rooted farmers, with tailored mentoring afterward to become part-time 'micro' farmers.
Operating model
A paid year-long school run by Kobe City and EAT LOCAL KOBE, aiming to grow the number of small-scale producers in response to post-pandemic ways of working.
Impact
Graduates join the region as part-time farmers, broadening the base of small-scale producers and farming successors in Kobe.
