Days of Healing greenhouse garden, Southside, Belize City

A greenhouse garden run by the community organisation Days of Healing on Vernon Street in the Southside of Belize City. It began in December 2021 when the horticulture unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise put up a covered structure and supplied vegetable seedlings. Young people from the area tend it, growing leaf lettuce and peppers. It is one example of the ministry's push to get urban residents growing vegetables for their own use or for extra income.

Young people from the neighbourhood do the day-to-day tending. The ministry's horticulture unit puts up the structure, supplies seedlings and gives growing advice, while the organisation provides the site and the people.

Materials come through the ministry's backyard-garden and greenhouse support. The harvest is mainly for the growers' own consumption, though the ministry also cites income generation as an aim.

Reporting reaches only as far as a month in, when the seedlings were said to be growing well. Yields, the number of participants and whether the garden has continued are not published, so its current state is unknown.
