Overview
Fukuoka develops municipal 'refresh' farms and instructor-led experience farms to support residents' farming activity for soil contact, health, food education and social interaction, while officially running new-farmer programmes like Agri-Challenge — an urban-agriculture policy of a major Kyushu city.
Citizen participation
Residents can casually engage with the soil by renting plots at municipal 'refresh' farms, and beginners can safely experience farm work at instructor-led experience farms. The programmes support urban residents' contact with farming, aimed at health, social interaction and food education.
