Joy of Urban Farming (Quezon City)

Overview
Launched in 2010 by then–Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte to mitigate hunger, it promotes methods suited to limited city space such as vertical and container gardening and chemical-free organic growing. By 2025 over 1,400 urban farms were reported across the city.
Citizen participation
A citizen-participatory urban-agriculture programme launched by Quezon City in 2010. It establishes gardens in barangays, schools, parishes and communities, giving residents starter kits of seeds, seedlings and tools plus training so they take part in growing and tending crops.
Operating model
A public city programme partnering with the Department of Agriculture, DENR, DepEd, NGOs and companies to provide seedlings, materials and technical support free of charge; harvests go to household consumption and livelihood.
Impact
Aiming at better nutrition, poverty alleviation and environmental protection, it became a model through which many residents gain food and livelihood, and is cited as a flagship of city-led urban agriculture in the Philippines.

The city uses public, barangay and school land and entrusts operation to residents and groups.
