Overview
An urban-beekeeping NPO based in Naka-ku, Nagoya, formed in the wake of the 2010 Convention on Biological Diversity COP10 held in Nagoya. It keeps bees on a rooftop in the Nishiki district to raise interest in biodiversity and the environment through downtown beekeeping.
Citizen participation
Offers opportunities to think about inner-city environmental conservation through hands-on contact with honeybees as an indicator species. Through honey harvesting, workshops, and outreach it conveys the meaning of urban beekeeping to citizens, environmental groups, and companies, and promotes greening of the city.

NPO-run. Sustained through online and retail sales of seasonally bottled honey, workshops, and corporate partnerships.
Impact
As a leading example of citizen-led urban beekeeping in Nagoya, the COP10 host city, it produces raw honey from the nectar of diverse pesticide-free urban plants and contributes to public education on biodiversity.

Umeda Honeybee Project
