Overview
In 2020 Mitsui Fudosan Residential launched, via its Mitsui no Sumai LOOP membership service and with JA Setagaya-Meguro, an experience-farm and harvest-event program. On a roughly 6,000 sqm farm near Sakurajosui Station, members take part in actual farming from sowing to harvest; one winter-vegetable harvest event drew about 400 groups.
Citizen participation
Residents/members of Mitsui Fudosan Residential properties (Mitsui no Sumai LOOP members) grow vegetables on a farm in Sakurajosui, Setagaya, run together with JA Setagaya-Meguro. Members get basic and seeding workshops, free seeds/seedlings and tool loans, and tend their own plots; harvest-experience events are also held.
Operating model
Offered as part of the Mitsui no Sumai LOOP membership service; JA provides land and cultivation guidance while the developer runs it as a resident-community / member service.
Impact
Created an ongoing point of contact with farming for urban apartment residents, fostering food education and inter-household exchange; a single harvest event attracted about 400 groups.
