Overview
A citizen network linking community urban gardens across Madrid. Founded in 2011 to make urban agriculture more visible and to provide mutual aid, it has helped drive municipal recognition of community gardens.
Citizen participation
Neighbourhood gardens run by residents and associations across the city work together, offering mutual support and sharing knowledge, experience, seeds and seedlings. Launched as a citizen movement in 2011, with a number of gardens formally recognised by the city from 2014.
Operating model
Non-profit operation by volunteers and members, combining municipal land and recognition with self-organised citizen management.
Impact
United scattered citizen gardens into a single network, strengthening their hand with the city and securing official status for many — building the backbone of citizen-led urban farming in Madrid.

One of UR's danchi-regeneration projects reusing the blocks of the former Tamadaira Danchi (1958) in Hino, Tokyo. With the ~45-plot 'Hidamari Farm', a 'Colony Garden' inspired by Danish kolonihave, and a fruit-bearing yard, it is garden-equipped rental housing where residents and locals connect through growing food.
