Overview
A 2023 initiative supporting citizens' home and community gardens in Greater Accra, Ghana, under the theme of 'working together to grow safe and nutritious foods', building urban residents' capacity to secure their own food and nutrition.
Citizen participation
Connects individuals and urban communities with knowledge, resources and comprehensive training in good gardening practices to support home gardens, aiming to empower and inspire women and men to play a proactive role in securing their own nutritional needs through locally grown food.
Operating model
Run as a public-benefit programme led by the international NGO Solidaridad through training, input support and networking, scaling from a pilot towards wider regional rollout.
Impact
It expands local production of safe, nutritious food in urban households and is expected to scale across Ghana as a model for improving residents' (especially women's) nutrition and agency.
