Overview
Swani Tiqa is a set of three citizen-run agroecological gardens in Rabat (started 2009) producing vegetables and herbs for nearby families through short producer-consumer chains. They are coordinated by RIAM, Morocco's national agroecology network, and took part in the pilot for the country's Participatory Guarantee System.
Citizen participation
Community- and association-based, run by volunteer and member cultivators. Consumers are linked directly to producers through a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) and support the gardens via upfront payment.
Operating model
Largely private/associative and self-organized, supported by RIAM and a PGS with CIRAD backing. Its principles emphasize solidarity and direct producer-consumer relationships rather than for-profit agribusiness.
Impact
Provides local food access for nearby families and helps alleviate local food insecurity, serving as a model for the wider RIAM agroecology movement across Morocco.
