Overview
A citizen urban-agriculture network overseeing 450+ community gardens centred on Bangkok. During COVID-19 it converted wasteland into food sources, launching 210 new gardens starting with 30 high-risk communities across six provinces.
Citizen participation
An urban-gardening movement started in 2010 by the Sustainable Agriculture Foundation (Thailand) with ThaiHealth support. Residents of slum and low-income communities turn wasteland into gardens, learning growing skills from mentors to build self-reliance.
Operating model
A non-profit network backed by public health funds and foundations. It operates through use of urban idle land, training and a City Farm Market, combining self-consumption and sale of harvests.
Impact
Strengthened food security and resilience for the urban poor and slum dwellers, becoming a central driver of citizen-participatory urban agriculture in Thailand.
