Yamaguchi Agriculture-Welfare Collaboration (model-area program)

Yamaguchi, Yamaguchi, Japan · Operator: 山口県(農福連携就労支援推進事業)

Overview

Yamaguchi Prefecture promotes agriculture-welfare collaboration, piloting contracted farm work in the model areas of Ube, Yamaguchi, Nagato and Shunan. By having disability-employment facilities take part in farming, it seeks both improved wages and purpose for participants and relief from local labor shortages and abandoned-farmland problems.

Citizen participation

Users of disability-employment facilities take part in farming through contracted farm work and by running their own gardens. The prefecture supports trials in model areas, and welfare facilities work local farmland to grow vegetables, helping ease labor shortages and bring fallow land back into use.

Operating model

A public program under Yamaguchi's agriculture-welfare employment-support scheme that designates Ube, Yamaguchi, Nagato and Shunan as model areas and documents contracted farm work and facility-run farms in a casebook to spread the model.
