Overview
Twenty-four young women in Honiara opened 13 gardens in backyards across 12 wards. In a capital heavily dependent on markets for food, the work is framed as feminist climate action: composting, seed saving and organic pest control taken back into local hands.
Citizen participation
Twenty-four young women drawn from 12 wards take part, including women with disabilities. They learn composting, seed saving and organic pest control hands-on and teach each other through a WhatsApp phone tree.
Operating model
Delivered within the Shifting the Power Coalition's women-led climate action work. Harvests go to participants' own households, and no funding breakdown has been published.
Impact
Early harvests support food security in seven homes. The WhatsApp phone tree endures as a place to learn and ask, and knowledge now moves between peers.
