Overview
Completed July 2020, a large ~5.2-hectare community garden in Zhuanghang Town, Fengxian District. Drawing on the area's rice-farming identity, it is an open agricultural park centred on children's farming experiences and food education.
Citizen participation
A child-friendly farming-education space where children and families take part in rice planting, harvesting, nature observation and crop-growing. It leverages the area's strong rice culture to run food-education programs centred on rice.
Operating model
A public project designed and operated with Clover Nature School and Pandscape Design, realised as a local-government (Fengxian District / Zhuanghang Town) initiative and sustained through commissioned operation and public support.
Impact
Reframed peri-urban farmland and local agricultural culture as a learning space for residents and children, and became a leading example of extending Shanghai's community-garden movement from the dense inner city to the suburban/rural fringe.
Land tenure
Publicly developed land entrusted by local government to the designers/operators (Clover Nature School et al.) to run as a community agricultural park.
