The Bottleneck and Countermeasure of Dalian Urban Modern Agriculture Development

This paper, based on the China urban agriculture development report 2013 and a SWOT analysis, studied the development of urban modern agriculture in Dalian. The study found that the agricultural industrial structure, shopping basket program, agricultural management system, land circulation, and agricultural information technology have restricted the development of Dalian's urban modern agriculture.

This research analyzed the advisability and potential for beef cattle development in South Tangerang, Indonesia. Data was collected through interviews with stakeholders, observations of livestock locations, and secondary sources. The study used Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and SWOT analysis to formulate development strategies, finding that waste management, biogas technology, farmer cooperative capacity building, and government land-use support are important for sustainability, farmer income, and food security.

This study investigated whether urban food growing practices in Bangalore, India's second fastest-growing city, contribute to the emergence of a more localized food system. Data was collected on input use, distribution arrangements for urban gardening products, and linkages among actors in urban and peri-urban agriculture. The study found that Bangalore's urban food growing practices conform to localized food system patterns, but this effect is incomplete due to challenges in localizing irrigation water sourcing and a lack of connectivity with the municipal government.

This paper constructed an index system for urban agriculture industry competitiveness in the Pearl River Delta and used grey correlation analysis to compare 9 cities. The results showed Foshan, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Guangzhou in descending order of competitiveness. Foshan, Huizhou, and Zhuhai were at the top, indicating strong overall agricultural industrial competitiveness.

In recent years, the popularization of mobile phones has significantly increased internet usage in rural China, leading to growing acceptance of rural e-commerce due to a wide selection of online products and freedom from market and regional constraints. As the rural e-commerce industry emerges, agricultural IoT has become a major driving force for increasing urban agricultural output, promoting rural economic development, reducing the number of agricultural workers, and increasing farmers' income. Therefore, in the "Internet+" era, cultivating local agri-business enterprises and building urban agricultural IoT is of extreme importance.

This study investigated urban agricultural complex building planning to activate local communities in South Korea, focusing on the social functions of urban agriculture. Analysis revealed that domestic community gardens lack experiential, educational, food/beverage, and sales spaces compared to foreign cases. The study concluded that sustainable community gardens require long-term networks and diverse programs, along with specific spaces and programs for various generations to vitalize local characteristics.

This study examines a new "agriculture-education-economy" cycle model, using the Liuyiyuan Urban Agriculture Demonstration Garden in Wenzhou as an example, to promote practical education amidst agricultural upgrading and restructuring. Based on regional cultural characteristics and client psychological needs, a planning concept was proposed to integrate tourism, agricultural production, demonstrations, entertainment, science education, and leisure activities within the natural environment. The aim is to unify human activity and the natural environment.

This comparative study of urban agriculture in Mumbai, India, and New York City, USA, utilized in-depth interviews with urban farmers and secondary research. The research revealed that farms and gardens in lower-income areas in both cities had access to significantly fewer resources than their counterparts in wealthier areas. Additionally, both movements struggled to form networks across socioeconomic divides.

Wuhu Street faces issues such as the disorderly sprawl of construction land and low land use efficiency. The study proposes targeted policy recommendations based on these findings.

This study analyzed the dynamic change and spatial difference of urban agricultural multi-functionality in Xi'an metropolitan zone, China, from 2000 to 2013. Using a comprehensive evaluation method and coupling coordinative degree model, it found that production, economic, and social functions generally rose, while ecological function declined. The overall multi-functional coupling coordination degree increased only slightly, and remained low across all regions, showing a core-periphery distribution.

This study, conducted in three districts of Telangana State, India (Adilabad, Nalgonda, and Warangal), used net returns from crops, fruit trees, and livestock to identify sustainable and profitable land uses, estimate credit requirements, and formulate a credit investment action plan, surveying 270 respondents (90 per district). Based on system index and benefit-cost ratio (BCR), the study identified profitable crop and livestock enterprises, with BCR ranging from 1.58 for cotton-pigeonpea intercropping in rural Adilabad to 3.98 for soybean-pigeonpea intercropping in peri-urban Adilabad. For fruit trees (15-year lifespan), payback periods of 5-7 years were found, with BCR of 1.61-2.07 and net present values (at 2010 prices) of 267 crore for sweet orange in Nalgonda and 109 crore for mango in Warangal. Returns per rupee invested in large ruminant (dairy) rearing ranged from 3.04 to 3.44, and for small ruminants from 4.05 to 5.54 across the three districts. The study reports large credit demand from the farming community and formulates a district-level investment action plan with policy implications.

This qualitative study describes the community empowerment strategy used by the Surabaya City Agriculture Department, Indonesia, to raise the incomes of participants in an urban catfish farming ("Budidaya Lele") program in the Pakis district. Informants, selected purposively, included the department's head of production, training staff, and program participants. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, verification, and triangulation. The department's strategy comprised three elements: organizing participants into "gotong royong" (mutual-aid) community groups, providing mentoring through seminars, training, and monitoring, and jointly planning the program with participating residents.

This study of Talang Mulya village, Padang Cermin district, Pesawaran, Indonesia, examines residents' willingness to accept (WTA) payment for environmental services (PES) aimed at rehabilitating the hydrological function of the upstream Way Betung sub-watershed, along with the factors influencing WTA and residents' preferred incentive forms, using WTA analysis, regression analysis, and descriptive qualitative analysis. The average respondent WTA was Rp 8,552.63 per tree per year; multiplied by the 1,462 trees in the mixed community garden, this yields a total village WTA value of Rp 12,503,945.06 per year. Education level, age, and land tenure status significantly influenced WTA value, and preferred incentive forms were cash, rural development support, seedling and fertilizer donations, and farm animals.

Using the Liuyiyuan urban agriculture demonstration park in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China as a case study, this paper (2015) examines an "agriculture-education-economy" cyclical development model that combines student practical education with socioeconomic benefits, framed against Wenzhou's agricultural upgrading and transformation. Focusing on spatial planning and project design, it proposes a planning philosophy built on attractive plant landscapes and informed by local cultural characteristics and visitor psychological needs, organically integrating tourism, agricultural production, demonstration and outreach, cultural recreation, science education, and leisure activities within the natural environment, aiming to create a favorable learning environment that unifies human activity with the natural setting.

In response to rising demand for perishable produce such as fresh vegetables and fruit driven by healthy-living campaigns, and the weaknesses of traditional supply chain management that lacks demand information for operational decisions such as planting schedules, a paper proposes an information-technology-based integrated supply chain management system for urban agricultural products that lets producers, distribution center administrators, retail administrators, store administrators and consumers share network-wide information. The system is presented as making planting-schedule planning, crop selection, harvest scheduling and demand-fulfillment reporting easier to carry out.

The study identifies potential health hazards for farmers, laborers, and consumers, including microbial pathogens and helminth (intestinal parasites). While UPA is presented as an option to address urban food demand, the paper emphasizes that "good practice UPA" requires integrated approaches and suitable risk reduction mechanisms to improve safety.

This paper constructed indicators for urban agricultural land use efficiency by incorporating urban agricultural ecosystem service indexes and evaluating their values in Xi'an city using the DEA method, analyzing temporal and spatial changes. Results showed that economic efficiency of agricultural land use gradually increased from 2010 to 2012, reaching 1 in 2011 and 2012, with social and eco-efficiency both in good conditions, indicating increasingly significant urban agriculture service functions. However, economic efficiency decreased spatially from urban core to suburban and rural areas, while social efficiency remained generally high, and eco-efficiency diminished from the city to surrounding counties.

This research aimed to formulate alternative strategies for urban agricultural development in South Tangerang City, which faces challenges related to a lack of resources, especially land. Vision and mission were formulated based on content analysis of stakeholder expectations and industry foresight, while strategy formulation used the IE matrix and balanced scorecard framework. The South Tangerang city government's position in developing urban agriculture was located on cell V, and the best strategy was to continue existing programs and activities, increasing their intensity and creating new types of services.

This paper surveyed 872 residents in Beijing from August to October 2012, using the contingent valuation method to estimate the potential value of Beijing's community gardens. Results showed that the average amount people were willing to pay for community gardens was 1002.62 RMB per person, the average area people tended to rent was 38.80 m² per person, and the total amount people were willing to pay was 12.301 billion RMB.
