Thinking about Developing Urban Agriculture in Guiyang City

This paper presents suggestions and countermeasures for accelerating urban agricultural development in Guiyang City, based on investigation information. It states that the rapid development of urban agriculture benefits the improvement of urban residents' quality of life, promotes rural economic development in the outskirts, and contributes to the construction of a new socialist country.

This study points out that Zhengzhou City, as the capital of Henan province and a national transportation hub, possesses many advantages for developing urban agriculture, including location, resources, science and technology, and market. It suggests that the city should advance urban agriculture according to different divisional areas, categorized as core, expanded, and peripheral areas, and provides countermeasures and constructive advice.

A cross-sectional study in a peri-urban area of Hanoi, Vietnam, surveyed 400 agricultural households and examined 807 stool samples from 620 adults and 187 children for helminth infections. The study found that 39% of samples were infected with helminths, with Ascaris sp. at 21.6%, Trichuris sp. at 9.8%, and hookworm at 21.8%. Wastewater exposure was not a major risk, but lack of sanitation facilities and use of fresh or inadequately composted human excreta in agriculture were important risk factors for infection.

Fuxin City in Liaoning Province, designated as the first experimental city for economic transformation by the State Council, employs urban agriculture to allocate unemployed miners. This paper summarizes this method of solving unemployment problems and explains its implications for other similar cities.

This essay introduces the successful modus operandi and experiences of urban agriculture in Japan, Germany, Singapore, and the Netherlands, and analyzes its basic functions. While urban agriculture has developed earlier and accumulated much experience in foreign countries, it is still a fresh matter in China. Considering China's situation, the author puts forward suggestions for developing urban agriculture, including scientific planning and reasonable distribution, strengthening government support, using more ways to invest and collect financing, promoting scientific content and expanding the scale of urban agriculture districts, paying close attention to the development of agriculture tourism, and intensifying propaganda.
