Research on Development of Modern Urban Agriculture in Zhengzhou Based on the View of Function

Zhengzhou's modern urban agriculture plays a significant role in the Central Plains Economic Zone's modern agricultural system, but its function is singular, leading to a large disparity with Beijing's urban agriculture. With policy support and increasing urban resident consumption, Zhengzhou's urban agriculture has a good development opportunity. It is suggested to expand its multi-functional aspects, develop leisure sightseeing agriculture, improve agricultural operators' competence, and increase government support to leverage its multi-functional benefits.

This study investigated community perceptions and participation in an urban farming program in RW 04 Tamansari, Bandung, Indonesia. Findings indicated that community perception of the urban farming program was good, with residents understanding its types and benefits. However, community participation in the program was not maximal, as not all residents of RW 04 were involved.

This study discussed the necessity of defining the concept of urban agriculture and promoting its development. It analyzed the characteristics and differences between suburban and urban agriculture, and based on the agricultural features in Jinshui District, Zhengzhou City, several suggestions for urban agricultural development were put forward, such as advancing land transfer and collecting social capital.

This study analyzed the current status of wastewater generation, its uses, and livelihood benefits, particularly in agriculture, in India. It was based on national data and case studies from Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kanpur, and Kolkata. A lack of systematic data collection by municipalities makes it difficult to accurately assess wastewater generation or estimate the total urban area under wastewater irrigation.

Housed in a comprehensive high school, the program was designed to provide real-life application for academic subjects and foster a global understanding of agriculture. Over its almost 20-year history, the STAR Academy provided urban students with a variety of agricultural opportunities.

General Nexus Between Water and Electricity Use and Its Implication for Urban Agricultural Sustainability: A Case Study of Shenzhen, South China

Water and electricity-use patterns in Shenzhen, South China, were analyzed from 2001 to 2009. Water and electricity use per GDP in agriculture was the highest among sectors, indicating inefficiency. Traditional agriculture in Shenzhen will not be sustainable during urbanization and industrialization, except for high-tech intensive agriculture with low water and energy costs, and has been gradually substituted by industry, construction, residential life, and services.

In Busan, South Korea, the necessity of urban agricultural parks is being raised to revitalize urban agriculture and solve urban problems. These parks are expected to expand family park functions, secure urban agriculture support centers, resolve land-use issues, and create leisure spaces and jobs for the elderly. Potential sites include damaged mountainous areas near Sanbok Road, the Nakdong River floodplain, and the former site of the Gangseo Horticultural Experiment Station.

The Xi'an Municipal Government Executive Meeting discussed urban agricultural development and approved in principle the "Xi'an Urban Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone Plan in the Northern Foothills of Qinling (2012-2020)" and the "Xi'an Baqiao Sub-district Planning Adjustment - Hongqing Group Plan (2010-2020)". The Qinling Northern Foothills Xi'an Urban Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone will cover the area along the Qinling Northern Foothills Ring Road and its northern regions in southern Xi'an, and most areas south of the Southern Horizontal Line.

This study reports on a thermal experiment and energy saving analysis of rooftop farming conducted in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, China, in August 2011. External and internal surface temperatures of roofs with and without greening were measured using the same climate parameters. The experiment results indicate that green roofs with urban farming contribute to modulating air temperature in building interior spaces, showing lower external surface temperatures than normal flat roofs during hot summer days. The vegetated green roof system was found to effectively lower surface temperature by 6 °C and save 18.7% electric power compared to traditional flat roofs.

This study analyzed the current circumstances of urban farming in Korea, including its legal system, the status of the urban farming act, and comprehensive plans, to identify improvement methods. It found that securing more space for urban farming and improving the support system for urban farmers are essential. The research suggests that enthusiastic local government attitudes, budget security, and citizen cooperation are vital for expanding urban farming.

This study analyzed the integration mechanism and value-added potential of urban agriculture, ecotourism, and cultural creative industries from the perspective of agriculture's ecological service value. The results indicate that the organic integration of these three industries is a major trend in the development of urban modern agriculture, capable of creating more valuable spaces for Beijing's urban modern agriculture and rural tourism.

In West Denpasar, Indonesia, urban agriculture contributes to food security and provides an alternative for the urban poor. Urban farmers show high interest in cultivating kale, pandan leaves, and lotus flowers, which are recommended due to favorable agro-climatic conditions and high economic value. Optimizing idle land utilization through urban farming is expected to reduce urban land conversion.

This article discusses the feasibility and optimization design of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) type urban agricultural tourism parks in China, using Chongming Happy Farm in Shanghai as an example. It analyzes issues to consider when developing such parks and explores design optimizations across five aspects: agricultural production systems, tourism systems, overall layout, functional spatial structure, and operation management. The study suggests that CSA-type urban agricultural tourism parks can optimize urban agricultural tourism development and expand suburban agricultural development paths.

A dimensional cropping-raising pattern and a self-contained facility were designed for urban agriculture in northern China, where urbanization causes soil shortage, disease, and pollution, exacerbated by an unpleasant climate. This facility features a ground-underground structure combining a greenhouse and a barton, designed to minimize pollution, eliminate heating supply needs, and double land utilization efficiency compared to normal facilities.

The incidence of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) in urban farming was investigated in Mumbai and its suburbs, India, specifically in wasteland near Central Railway side tracks. Roots of commonly cultivated crops like bhindi, chavali, and fenugreek, along with rhizospheric soil samples, were collected and screened for AMF colonization percentage and spore density. In these disturbed habitats, characterized by poor quality soil and irrigation from gutters and wastewater, incidences of mycorrhizal fungi were found to be higher in terms of percent colonization.

This paper analyzes the absorptive capacity of urban agriculture for surplus labor in China, using C-D and CES production function models with sampled data from 1990 to 2008. The study found that urban agriculture development in Guangzhou had a strong capacity to absorb surplus labor. A SWOT analysis was also conducted for Guangzhou's urban agriculture, leading to six specific development measures.

This study established a landscape planning program evaluation model for urban leisure agricultural parks using the AHP-TOPSIS method. Evaluation factors included functional orientation, spatial layout, agricultural features, traffic organization, scenic attractions, service facilities, and vegetation landscape. The results showed better differentiation, providing a basis for decision-makers in urban agricultural park projects to promote sustainable development.

This qualitative descriptive study analyzed the effectiveness of an urban farming catfish aquaculture program in Medokan Ayu Village, Rungkut District, Surabaya City. The program was concluded to be less effective overall, showing no impact on the welfare of the poor. Low understanding among participants led to cultivation failures, and the program did not achieve its goals of poverty reduction or increased income.

This paper analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of urban agriculture in Xixian New Area using the SWOT method. Combining the actual conditions of urban agriculture development in Xixian New Area, it discussed general and specific development modes. It concluded that urban agriculture in Xixian New Area should leverage its strengths, avoid weaknesses, and select suitable development modes and paths.

This research analyzed user satisfaction and preferences for hotel rooftop gardens in Seoul and Incheon, South Korea, to propose renovation plans. Customer satisfaction analysis showed that C Hotel and P Hotel in downtown Seoul had lower satisfaction regarding plant numbers and variety compared to H Hotel in Incheon. User preferences indicated a desire for multi-functional green spaces that host cultural and community events and offer physical exercise opportunities.

A case study of Gurgaon, India, examined how local political factors, the rural-urban divide, and inter-governmental conflicts influenced the governance of a rapidly globalizing urban region. The study found that Gurgaon's real estate-driven transformation from a rural town to an outsourcing hub, involving the conversion of peri-urban agricultural land, has resulted in a fragmented landscape with glaring inequalities. This rapid urban makeover created everyday tensions and contradictions, particularly evident with the formation of a new municipal corporation.

This study aimed to understand the current state of children's dietary education and explore the applicability of taste education, focusing on international examples. Analyzing Korean elementary school curricula and prior research, alongside cases from Japan, Italy, and France, revealed that taste education is not systematically integrated into the formal curriculum in South Korea. However, taste education is expanding through initiatives like garden education farms and organic school lunches, suggesting a proposed shift from theory and experience-centered to value and emotion-centered dietary education.
