This research investigated the effect of nanosilica addition on red rice growth and yield using a factorial randomized block design with two varieties (Pamera, Pamelen) and five nanosilica concentrations. Applying nanosilica colloid at 15 mL L-1 to Pamera and Pamelen varieties increased plant length and tiller number, and accelerated flowering age. However, nanosilica had no effect on harvest age and yield components.

In Indonesia, this study analyzed the role of communication management in the Cempaka Women Farmers' Group as a strategy to improve food security and family economy through urban farming programs. A descriptive qualitative research method was used, conducting field research through direct observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicated a need for mentoring, which can be achieved through business management training to maximize the economic value of harvests and processed products, utilizing web-based applications for recording members, harvests, and sales, and digital marketing communication to promote the group and build brand awareness for their products.

This study evaluated the qualitative traits of 94 local Bambu Apus rabbits, comparing them with 89 Rex and 89 New Zealand White rabbits in DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. Observed variables included head type, ear type, eye color, body color, fur characteristics, and body size. Bambu Apus rabbits showed distinct traits such as blue and heterochromia eye color, predominantly light brown and harlequin color patterns, compact body type variations, lion fur, and lop ear type. These traits suggest their genetic potential as tropical climate-adaptive broiler rabbits for urban farming.

Songo Village in Surabaya, Indonesia, promotes urban farming for local food security and income generation. This initiative disseminated a solar-powered hydroponic unit capable of operating without PLN electricity. The system features 300 planting holes, a 12V 200Ah battery, a 900Wp solar panel, and a 1kW inverter. A simple profit forecast indicated a final profit of 19,232,727 IDR, with a return on investment projected within 13 months.

This qualitative case study in East Jakarta, Indonesia, investigated urban farming as a means to balance urban life. Field observations, interviews, and documentation identified several obstacles: a lack of community awareness, limited facilities, and challenges from extreme weather. Proposed solutions include community empowerment, improved facilities, and better climate control and supply chain systems.

An urban farming program was implemented in Pakintelan Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang, Indonesia, to address food security challenges and improve local economic welfare by utilizing limited urban land. This program involved UNPAND KKN students providing training and mentoring in farming techniques, organic pest management, and compost use, aiming to increase community participation in agricultural activities and understanding of sustainable practices. The program successfully increased community participation, maintained environmental sustainability, and contributed to the economy through the potential use of harvests for consumption or sale.

This quantitative study analyzed the impact of KWT Mentari members' participation in urban agricultural businesses and local food management on family welfare in Kalurahan Maguwoharjo, Sleman Regency, with 35 respondents. The research found high participation levels among KWT Mentari members, with 85% in planning, 85% in implementation, 83% in results utilization, and 86% in evaluation. Family welfare levels were also high, with many respondents classified as Prosperous Family II (10), Prosperous Family III (14), and Prosperous Family III+ (8). Statistical tests indicated that participation significantly affected family welfare, accounting for 51.0% of the variation, with the remaining 49.0% influenced by other factors.

This quantitative research, using Rasch Modeling and a census of urban farming group members in RW 04 Pajajaran District, Cicendo, Bandung City, aimed to analyze community perceptions of urban farming benefits. The study found that the community sufficiently benefited from the program, perceiving it as making the environment green, beautiful, and productive. However, respondents believed urban farming could not minimize household food consumption costs, indicating environmental benefits were more dominant than household resilience.

This study introduced an "element coupling-function synergy" analytical framework and constructed a causal Bayesian belief network to identify trade-offs and synergies among multiple functions of cultivated land resources in Guangdong, China. The findings revealed trade-offs between food cleanliness and food production/social security. Synergistic relationships were found among food production, social security, and ecological regulation, as well as among ecological regulation, habitat maintenance, and landscape culture. The study divided the area into eight functional zones and formulated multi-objective management plans.

This paper uses remote sensing data from 2011 to 2023 to examine agricultural land loss in Bhubaneswar, India, a smaller city experiencing significant agricultural decline. It compares the decrease in agricultural land with the increase in built-up areas. The study highlights that agricultural land conversion negatively impacts food security and proposes a nature-based solution to achieve urban food self-sufficiency.

This study, conducted in Bangalore Urban District, India, explored the transformative benefits perceived by 90 respondents practicing urban nutri-gardens. Notably, 96.67% of respondents identified the availability of fresh and healthy food as the primary benefit, followed by the assurance of chemical-free vegetables (93.33%) and improved emotional well-being (91.11%). Economic and environmental benefits were also acknowledged, demonstrating the holistic impact of urban nutri-gardens on health, economics, environment, and social well-being.

This 2024 research focused on developing Women Farmer Groups (KWT) through the Sustainable Food Farms (P2L) program in Parepare City, Indonesia. An analysis identified weaknesses including a lack of fulfillment of market demands and internal group conflicts. Strategies proposed included selecting short-harvest crops, forming partnerships, and increasing group awareness of program outcomes to address these challenges.

This community service activity focused on implementing an integrated aquaponics system and enhancing community competence through training and mentoring in RT09 RW09, Pepelegi Village, Waru District. The project aimed to improve food security for residents and utilize vacant land, which was previously only used for growing vegetables such as basil, spinach, and tomatoes. The output of this activity is the implementation of an integrated aquaponics system and increased community competence.

This study used Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data to identify which households raise livestock in urban and peri-urban areas of eight developing Asian countries. Results show that at least 10% of households keep livestock, with over 30% in four countries practicing urban and peri-urban livestock farming (UPLF). Poultry is the most common livestock, and poorer families are more likely to raise livestock, suggesting UPLF can improve food and nutritional security for low-income households.

The program aimed to educate and introduce the concept of urban farming from an early age, contributing to family food security and supporting a greener urban environment.

A community service program was implemented in Pananjung Village, Pangandaran Regency, Indonesia, providing training to homemakers. The program offered instruction on organic waste management through composting and eco-enzyme production, as well as the application of urban farming in limited spaces. Participants learned techniques for processing kitchen waste into compost and eco-enzymes for natural fertilizer, and planting seeds like chili and tomato using recycled materials as planting media. This training aimed to equip participants with practical skills and increase their awareness of waste reduction and the importance of utilizing small plots for food security.

This paper discusses the potential of kitchen gardening as a solution to urban heat island effects and nutritional insecurity caused by urbanization in India. Kitchen gardening contributes to managing the urban heat island effect by moderating temperature extremes through urban vegetation, which reduces energy consumption for air conditioning. It also ensures food security by providing a direct source of fresh produce, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals.

This study implemented an urban farming pilot project in the courtyard of the Daruth Tayyibah Mosque in Pahandut Seberang Subdistrict, Palangka Raya City, Indonesia. Using qualitative methods, the project aimed to encourage riverside communities to grow vegetables in their yards for daily needs and potential business opportunities. Initial activities included discussions with community leaders and outreach to women regarding hydroponics.

The Community Empowerment Program in Kelan Traditional Village, Badung Regency, Bali, aimed to develop the village into an environmentally friendly and resilient tourist village. Activities focused on household liquid organic fertilizer (POC) management, enhancing community capacity in organic farming (hydroponics and aquaponics), and strengthening the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). Participants showed significant improvements in understanding, knowledge, and skills, with 90% able to produce quality POC. These activities contributed to improved village environmental quality, the creation of new economic opportunities, and the development of new edutourism products.

In Bendan Duwur Village, Gajahmungkur District, Semarang City, Indonesia, an urban farming training program was implemented to utilize vacant land and promote food security. The program involved socialization, discussions, and distribution of horticultural seeds to participants. The training received positive responses, with participants reporting aesthetic, health, and economic benefits, and non-participants showing interest in adopting urban farming. Residents who implemented the program reduced their vegetable purchases from markets.

This paper examined the relevance of an Agroecological Transition for the Special Region of Yogyakarta (SRY), Indonesia, emphasizing farmers’ perspectives and experiences. Data were gathered from policy documents, field observations, and 34 semi-structured interviews with farmers. Findings indicated that although there is limited discourse about agroecology in current policies, some farmers and NGOs have developed agroecological niche innovations.

This descriptive quantitative study, conducted in Sungai Jawi Dalam sub-district, Pontianak City, analyzed factors influencing urban farming interest using primary data from 32 purposively sampled individuals and Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis. The research found that the "Business Opportunity" variable had no effect on urban farming interest. However, the "Land Use" variable positively affected urban farming interest (p=0.008, original sample value 0.479), explaining 47.9% of the interest.

Residents showed positive responses and high enthusiasm, indicating that urban farming can increase food security, family independence, environmental quality, and public health.

This qualitative case study in Sukun Village, Malang City, Indonesia, investigated urban farming's potential for diverse food security and community empowerment through commercialization. Data was collected via in-depth interviews with 15 stakeholders, participatory observations, and document analysis. Findings indicate that urban farming contributes to micro-food security by providing fresh produce, fostering social solidarity, and increasing household incomes through cooperative models and agrotourism, also highlighting its integration with educational tourism for economic sustainability.

This community service activity in Mulyoagung Village, Malang, Indonesia, aimed to empower the local economy through urban farming by utilizing organic waste such as cocopeat and polybags as growing media. The program successfully enabled the community to adopt urban farming concepts, proving its effectiveness in addressing shrinking agricultural land and strengthening the local economy. However, it is also noted that sources of materials, human resources, and market access are among the obstacles causing urban farming failures.
