AURA243 Tamadaira no Mori (Hidamari Farm / Colony Garden)

Hino, Tokyo, Japan · Operator: 田辺物産ほか(UR都市機構の多摩平団地再生・ストック活用事業の賃貸住宅運営者)

Overview

One of UR's danchi-regeneration projects reusing the blocks of the former Tamadaira Danchi (1958) in Hino, Tokyo. With the ~45-plot 'Hidamari Farm', a 'Colony Garden' inspired by Danish kolonihave, and a fruit-bearing yard, it is garden-equipped rental housing where residents and locals connect through growing food.

Citizen participation

Residents and locals rent plots in the rental gardens to grow vegetables and fruit and interact through the on-site orchard and event space; the project reuses 1958-era buildings of the former Tamadaira Danchi, with gardening as the core of communal life.

Operating model

A UR 'stock-utilization' scheme in which roughly 50-year-old blocks are renovated rather than demolished and operated by private firms; gardens and yards are bundled with the rental housing, funded by rent and plot fees.

Impact

Widely cited as a model of regenerating danchi by reusing existing stock rather than demolishing it, demonstrating multigenerational rental housing with gardens; together with the adjacent share-house 'Riento Tamadaira' and senior housing 'Yuimaru Tamadaira' it forms a multigenerational community.
