Overview

The second Kitakagaya Minna no Uen site (2013), turning a former bathhouse and cultural housing of about 500 sqm into a larger community farm with ~33 plots and a kitchen studio.

Citizen participation

An open, larger farm where many people pass through for events and rental space. Members rent roughly 6 sqm plots to grow vegetables, and a renovated kitchen studio hosts cooking and events.

Operating model

Idle land and vacant buildings from the landowner (Chishima Real Estate / Chishima Foundation for Creative Osaka context) are borrowed and run on monthly plot fees plus event and space rental, as part of the Kitakagaya Creative Village vision.

Impact

A hub for varied activities (pizza oven, soy-sauce making, etc.), widely cited as a model for interim use of idle property and community building.

Chayamadai Danchi 'Hibikiau Danchi Life' (DIY, lemon cultivation, community gardening)

At the public-corporation rental complex Chayamadai Danchi in Senboku New Town, Sakai, Osaka, the Osaka Prefectural Housing Supply Corporation runs the 'Hibikiau Danchi Life' regeneration project. In an aging complex with rising vacancies, it revives residents' lives and community through a DIY workshop, library, deli, mobile vegetable sales and lemon cultivation in vacant spaces.
